If there is a specific day or lesson time you would like to reserve, please let me know and I will try to reserve the time for you. I will be scheduling current students first, as I can only take on a very small number of new enrollments.

  • Backyard concerts prove popular

    By Pamela Knudson
    Grand Forks Herald

More backyard concerts are planned in the next couple of weeks by Tamara Bertram, executive director of the Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra.

Bertram, a doctoral student in the UND music department, gathers small groups of musicians, including her students, other music teachers and symphony members, to play classical, pop and folk music.

The free events are proving to be popular among seniors, who have been isolated at home for months, and others who are craving outdoor entertainment.

Upcoming concerts, all in Grand Forks, are set for: Thursday, July 16, at the home of Margo Colenso, 2118 10th Ave. N.; Friday, July 17, Gwen Skjold’s home, 2068 Westminster Court; Friday, July 24, Ruth and Harry Leichtner’s home, 738 Vineyard Circle; and Tuesday, Aug. 4, Scott and Sharron Roche’s home, 898 46th Ave. S.

All concerts begin at 6:30 p.m.

Guests are asked to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating, and follow social distancing guidelines.

Many who attend the events say they appreciate the chance to be outdoors, listen to live music and visit with other people, said Betty Bloomquist, who started the series with Bertram and has hosted several of these informal events at her Grand Forks home.

Knudson is a features reporter at the Herald. Call her at (701) 780- 1107, (800) 477-6572 ext.1107 or email pknudson@gfherald.com.
